Chronic stress and related stress hormones could negatively affect brain structures important for memory and cognition, like the hippocampus. Chronic stress is also associated with inflammation in the body and in the central nervous system/brain that is linked to Alzheimer’s disease and other disorders of aging. Yoga can reduce stress hormones and inflammatory factors, and teach an individual over time how to cope more effectively and protect the body from going through the stress response,” she explains, noting that the younger you are when you start practicing yoga and meditation, the better.
We will be offering you a gentle led class focused on mindfulness and movement.

Adjustment workshops are an opportunity to learn the principles behind assisting with practice. Course participants adjust each other, learning different ways to assist each posture, with plenty of time for repetition, feedback, and discussion.
This workshop is suitable both as a way of deepening one’s own practice (come get adjusted this is a hand on weekends!) and as training to assist others and can be attended with either intention. Moving back and forth between the two roles of adjusting and being adjusted one develops both an objective understanding of the method and a subjective feeling for technique.
When giving adjustments we utilize natural forces which can assist us – such as the force of gravity and the fluidity of the breath: we use our body weight instead of strength and instead of forcing the student’s body we use the students breathing as the vehicle which facilitates deepening of the posture.
The full workshop is for those practicing Intermediate Series at least up until eka pada sirsasana.
Students practicing half primary can attend the first weekend and students practicing full primary can take the first weekend and the first part of the following Saturday which will complete the primary series adjustments. There will be asana practice (combination of led and Mysore) each day at 8 am.
